Since 2001, Nurani Dunia and the residents of Cisarua elementary school have rebuilt their dilapidated school building. The construction was made possible through donations from Bank Mandiri, the National Department of Education, and other donors, as well as through the participation of the community. When construction was completed the Cisarua school became a model for other schools. Nurani Dunia also supported the renovation or construction of other schools in the same area.
In order to ensure the continued care and attention to the quality of these schools as well as to involve the community in educational development in the region, a non-profit foundation, the Pena Hijau Foundation, was established by the community. Nurani Dunia is assisting the foundation until it is able to support itself.
One community development program is the integrated agriculture and animal husbandry program implemented at the Cisarua school with the hope that the community residents will use the proceeds to pay for the maintenance and development of the school in the future. The program involves the participation of teachers, school employees, parents, and students. It is hoped that these activities will help to improve living standards for teachers and community members. In addition, the land affords students the opportunity to learn about and appreciate their environment. As an initial step, the Department of Agriculture also has given its support to this program.
