Since the outbreak of social conflict in Ambon in 1999, which was followed by other conflicts in several regions, humanitarian crises have spread across the country of Indonesia. Thousands have been forced to flee homes and villages they loved, not knowing where to go or how they would cope.
Nurani Dunia Foundation, founded with the goal of assisting victims of natural and social disaster, has conducted a variety of programs to help those affected. One such program is the peace campaign.
In the structure of campaigning for peace, Nurani Dunia Foundation has conducted a number of activities. Programs include:
Partnership Program with Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI) (2003)
In cooperation with Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI), Nurani Dunia Foundation conducted a peace campaign in the form of posters, stickers, school notebooks and T-shirts. Posters were displayed at branch offices of Bank Rakyat Indonesia across the country. Stickers and school notebooks featuring messages of peace were distributed in areas affected by conflict, including Ternate, Kupang, and Aceh. T-shirts featuring the message “Warga Cinta Damai” (Peace Loving Citizen) were distributed among residents of RW 06 Pegangsaan neighborhood of Menteng subdistrict in Central Jakarta (in the area around Jalan Bonang), an area often affected by fighting between neighborhoods.

Presentation and screening of the film “Indonesiaku Menangis” at event hosted by the Social Workers Caucus. The theme of the conference was “Developing a Framework for Resolving the Problem of Internal Displacement in Indonesia” at the IDP Studies Center at the Bandung College for Social Welfare in West Java. The event took place November 12-13, 2001.
”IDP Children’s Week at the University of Indonesia” Program in partnership with SC Crisis of the University of Indonesia (October 2001)
Nurani Dunia Foundation participated in IDP Children’s Week at the University of Indonesia. The event included a photography exhibit, a seminar on Child IDPs, a workshop on trauma counseling, the screening of the film Children of Heaven, a bazaar and humanitarian exhibition. The program was held October 11-14, 2001 at the Japanese Studies Center, University of Indonesia, Depok campus. The event was sponsored Nurani Dunia Foundation and SC Crisis of the University of Indonesia.

Nurani Dunia Foundation held a Peace Campaign at the Islamic Teachers Faculty at Al Izhar Pondok Labu on August 17, 2001. Held on Indonesia’s Independence Day, Nurani Dunia Foundation presented information on its programs and activities for IDPs in conflict areas.
School Uniform Campaign (July 2001)
In Indonesia, graduating students usually sign each other’s uniforms (corat coret) as a ritual of commencement. To remind students that there were still many IDPs in need of school uniforms, Nurani Dunia Foundation organized an “anti-corat coret” campaign and collected used uniforms from junior high and high school students to send to IDPs in need of school uniforms. The campaign was held during the month of July 2001.
