On
August 25, 2007, 61 housing units in Komplek Perumahan Desa Neuheun (Neuheun
Village Housing Complex) were built for tsunami victims in Nanggroe Aceh
Darussalam. This housing complex was built by the Nurani Dunia Foundation and
Bank Mandiri.
The
dedication ceremony was attended by BUMN (state-owned corporation) Minister
Sofyan Djalil, Bank Mandiri Managing Director Agus Martowardojo, the Nurani
Dunia Foundation Director Imam B. Prasodjo, the Nurani Noehoen Mandiri
Foundation Manger Salamuddin and other invited guests and members of the local
community.
The
houses were built according to the traditional Acehnese architectural style,
which can be seen by the shape of the roofs. The houses were designed to have
two stories that are
2 x (7x6)
m2,
with a ground floor without walls to avoid possible destruction from swift water
currents that could possibly come down from the hills. The ground floor is also
used for the bathroom and kitchen, along with a room for the family’s economical
activities. The upper floor is for bedrooms and the family.
This
housing complex was designed using a cluster or group system. Each cluster has
five or six adjacent houses that form a circle with a garden in the middle.
The aim of this cluster system is to support the foundation of a communal
economy within the complex. It is hoped that each occupant will be able to make
use of the first floor for taking care of business, and the garden as a park and
social activity area for the community.
