July 23, 2008, National Children’s Day was celebrated
throughout Indonesia on July 23, 2008. Various activities that urged everyone
to care for Indonesian children were carried out. Children were very happy
because there were many activities that they could enjoy.
On Sunday, July 27, 2008, the Indonesian Child Protection
Commission and the Social Department held an event to commemorate National
Children’s Day on Jalan M.H. Thamrin in Central Jakarta. From morning until
evening, tens of thousands of children from various schools around Jakarta came
and played. They went from tent to tent and learned about different new things
that could trigger children’s creativity.
Of the thousands of children that filled Jalan Thamrin were
children from Apung Study House, RW 01, Kapuk, West Jakarta and DPR (Railway
Tracks Outskirts) Bonang Study House, RW 06, Pegangsaan, Central Jakarta. About
50 children from two study houses joined in and happily watched these merry
activities. The arrival of these children was organized by the Nurani Dunia
Foundation and facilitated by XL, one of the cell phone operators that also
participated in the Children’s Creativity Festival on Jalan Thamrin.
